Having established Samsung Electronics' Giheung and Hwaseong semiconductor FAB in 1983, we have now been developing and implementing advanced Semiconductor FAB infra-related construction methods for more than 40 years. Our expertise as a FAB infra R&D organization has been further strengthened since the launch of our research institute in July 2022.

Key Research Areas

To develop cutting-edge technologies related to FAB infrastructure, we focus on researching and developing three core areas: ① construction method technology, ② cleanroom technology, and ③ IT automation technology.

Construction Method Technology

We develop structural systems that minimize material usage and control micro-vibrations while promoting modular construction methods to achieve cost savings in material and construction expenses.

Structural Technology

Focusing on Semiconductor Infra Laboratory and specialized fields, we contribute to our clients’ businesses through researching the optimal structural solutions for semiconductor production facilities, optimization of frame materials based on design and analysis capabilities, reduction of construction time and costs, and integration of construction processes. As semiconductor production equipment is continuously upgraded, we research and develop new construction methods and technologies for design, construction processes, structures, and materials to supply FABs in a timely and reasonable manner, meeting increasingly sophisticated client demands.

Module Construction Method Technology

By developing and expanding the application of modular technology, which can distribute on-site labor to external production facilities, we improve on-site productivity and enhance the efficiency, safety, and quality of our construction. We possess the largest domestic capacity for modular construction, ranging from small-scale MEP modules to large-scale architectural and structural modules. Our capabilities span from the identification of modular items in the design stage to customized module production, construction, and on-site installation support according to site characteristics.

Cleanroom Technology

We support our clients in achieving cost reduction and carbon neutrality goals through the development of optimized public facilities and eco-friendly energy technologies. We collaborate, considering the entire life cycle of semiconductor factories (FABs), from design to operation, to efficiently construct and manage FABs. We develop new FAB models and high-efficiency/high-performance utility equipment for this purpose.

IT-based Automation Technology

We enhance worksite productivity, safety, and quality by developing mechanization and automation technologies and implementing digital twin environments.

Automation Technology

We are reducing on-site workforce by leveraging mechanical technology to replace and integrate unit functions, primarily targeting tasks with similar repetitions and high safety/idle time. Additionally, we are recruiting and securing technical experts, providing support for the practical application of acquired technologies, and conducting technical training.

DT(Digital Transformation) Technology

Leveraging digital technology, we revolutionize project management methods across all stages of the construction industry's project life cycle. We establish a digital work infrastructure for systematic collaboration using web and mobile-based systems, leveraging digital twin technology to replicate construction sites and conduct simulations, thereby enhancing work efficiency and productivity.
