“Thefatality rate per 10,000 workers in the Korean construction industry is 2.0 times the average of the 10 major OECD countries.”

Construction is an inherently high-risk industry. Even in advanced countries that placed ‘safety’ as their top priority ahead of us, the fatality rate in the construction sector is still two to six times higher than the national average. This reflects the characteristics of the industry, such as complex business structures and frequent turnover of workers. In Korea, construction industry’s accident-related fatality rate in 2023 was 1.59 per 10,000 workers, which is 2.04 times higher than the average of the 10 major OECD countries(0.78). This highlights the need for even greater efforts in preventing accidents.
